Alex one of the best due rather different and varying terrain combined with the sea. Old dilapidated basecamp house will by now have been replaced with 2 really good wooden huts with balcony in forest.
Fair bit of first section to waterboom is on old jeep track but fascinating bush/especially those thorns and treebeard meant that one was happy and not getting that :”I hate boring roads feeling’ .
Rather think of this as a wide track/path.

Again enter forest/bush – meander thru till end.
Saw 10 loeries in 2 days, fish eagle / endangered oyster catchers / buck [ we were a small quiet group – its got its advantages].
Lots n lots a spiders, assassin bugs in masses / tiny tiny snails in masses/ lotsa lizards on top of dune cliff.
In windy conditions may be a bit trying in sections [sand], in calm conditions absolute paradise.

Overnite hut set back a bit and reached via path through bush – water scarce / tanks locked – you get given key – so no showering. Great view from balcony - sea, whales n dolphins n hikers trying to find path leading down to wreck [never ever did find].

Day 2 through path /tunnel in bush to/from waterboom more in a bush to forest environment.
Emerge from this at an old meadow – cross this and follow dirt road adjacent holiday resort to path leading through coastal bushtoo.
A long white incredible beach.

Along beach to foot of dune cliffs. At low tide, look for freshwater spring emerging at base of dune cliff, then climb rope n pole ladder to top of cliff. Above walking through dunes n coastal bush with magnificent views out to bird island - contrasts as white sand, green bush, blue sea n sky. foot of dune field = steep climb out / then meander cross dunes with clumps various bush etc till you are lead again to old farmland. Cross this, passing old chicory roaster and deserted farm house . Water point [old one ] now dry, did not investigate an arrow pointing to another water source but did get water from roof tanks of the farmhouse .

Update - 2006

New base huts in forest in use.

Donkey for shower. Gas stove n fridge,.

Couldn’t get fridge to start last year…nor this year. At end of hike asked forestry staff to check…and they said fridge broken!

Lights= solar…..but limited use as charge not guaranteed to last …then you convert to candles

Places set up for full self catering.

Too luxurious = then things go wrong….so rather stay basic,

Day one as previous.

Hut at woody cape received major maintenance …but obviously budget ran out….as 2x windows not fixed and bench and additional step on stoep obviously made fron “scrap ‘ wood. One wonders if they should not have left fridges out of base n diverted money to this instead!

New mattresses.

Balconey /deck /stoep extended outwards for half its length to give really good views n also allows space to sleep outside….a big plus

Long drops upgraded….but still long drops – yeah!!!.....sorry folks…we like rustic

Climb up dune out of bush on day 2 to get onto dune field now has a rope to assist you.

Dune field the same but red n white markers now more visible and route well marked.

Then route diverts so no longer cross farm land and old chicory oven………………..this was in open n boring anyway.

Now divert to one side so remain in bush/ forest for entire remainder of route which ends with you bumping your nose on langebos base huts as they spring unexpectedly out of the forest
